Before Move-In: The Virginia UAI, Physician Exam and Care Plan
The short answer: Virginia requires three things before and soon after move-in: a doctor's exam, a standard assessment called the UAI, and a written care plan. Here's what each one is and when it happens.
- Physician exam, within 30 days before move-in. An independent doctor examines your parent and completes a report, including a tuberculosis risk check.1
- The UAI, before move-in. This standard Virginia assessment looks at daily activities and helps confirm we can meet your parent's needs. A UAI done in the last 90 days can be used if nothing has changed. It's repeated at least once a year, and anytime needs change significantly.2
- A preliminary care plan, by move-in day. We put together a starting plan in the week before your parent arrives.3
- A full care plan, within 30 days. Once we know your parent, we write a detailed plan with you. We review it at least once a year, and sooner if anything changes.3
- A signed resident agreement. Before move-in, you'll get a clear written agreement covering charges, services and house policies.4
